I've only watched this episode once so far but the only time I saw it, it gave me VERY mixed feelings.
On one hand, it opened the door to so many headcanons. When Diego's friends mentioned going to the oasis to escape the city, it gave me so many ideas as to why each one of Diego's friends would want to escape the city. Zazie, Joe, Larry, Tony and Sonia have such different personalities that it made me speculate on potential backstories for them since their backstories are barely explained in the cartoon.
On the other hand, Ziggy was much more vicious in this episode than even most of his appearences. Although hot-tempered and unruly, I was truly shocked when Ziggy was willing to tear down the oasis at the climax of the episode. I personally think it's the closest thing Ziggy has done to merit a moral event horizon crossing.
So for me, Boom Town is a love/hate kind of episode.
